Questions & Answers

How did your journey start?

My journey began in Peru, where I discovered my love for dance at age five. Growing up as a mixed-race Afro-Peruvian, I was deeply inspired by the rhythms of Afro-Peruvian music, the Cajón’s beat, and my cultural traditions, which filled me with pride and purpose from a young age.

Who is your inspiration?

My mother, a single parent and my first teacher, is my greatest inspiration. She taught me resilience, gratitude, and that dreams are worth the sacrifices. She taught me how to balanced intense dance training, sports, and studies to earn scholarships, being a huge support in the preocess.

When did you move to Amsterdam?

I moved to Amsterdam about five years ago, seeking to expand my horizons and help my family. I poured my heart into building a dance community and a name for myself teaching and performing across Europe.

How is your journey going?

I’ve had the privilege to perform internationally, from choreographing in Barcelona to representing Afro-Latin culture at Afro Nation in Portugal for 60,000 people. This year, I became the first Latin dancer to perform at a sold-out show in London with DJ Uncle Waffles. Each of these experiences has fuelled my commitment to share Afro-Latin dance and showcase its boundless beauty.

What is your vision and mission?

I founded The Afro Latin Club to celebrate Afro-Latin culture, break stereotypes, and inspire pride in our heritage. This project, along with The Afro-Latin Camp in Peru 2025, aims to immerse people in Afro-Peruvian culture, encouraging growth and connection. My dream is to extend this journey across South America, sharing the voices of Afro-Latin communities. I hope my story inspires others—especially immigrants—to pursue their dreams, honour their roots, and recognise the power we have to change lives and celebrate our culture.
